Have you been practicing your mirror exercise? If you didn’t read that post before here is a recap:
It’s looking in the mirror, which there are many around us, in bathrooms, hallways, and in other spaces. Again, look in a mirror, put a smile on your face, and say I am Magnificent!
Try it, “Smile.”. How does that make you feel? It feels pretty good doesn’t it.
Say your name, I…(say your name), and say, I am magnificent! Now pat yourself on the back. And celebrate!
Celebration is an important step to reprogram your system by shifting to the positive which raises your dopamine levels and motivates you to want to do it again. Sound good? And it’s pretty easy right? It really is.
Here is another tool to add to your mirror exercise which you can use anywhere:
It’s putting a smile on your face, looking up, and saying I am Magnificent!
Try it, “Smile.” Notice how smiling makes you feel. How does smiling make you feel? It feels pretty good doesn’t it.
Now I want you to practice this, think of something negative for a few seconds, and feel it.
Got it? Good. Now keep feeling that negative feeling and smile. Can you still feel negative while smiling? No, you can’t feel negative when you are smiling. So do this, stand up, look up, and smile, and say I am magnificent. Now pat yourself on the back. And celebrate. Remember, Celebration is an important step to reprogram your system by shifting to the positive which raises your dopamine levels and motivates you to want to do it again. Sound good? And it’s pretty easy right? It really is.
Now your homework is to practice feeling bad on purpose for a few seconds, stop and interrupt your pattern, stand up, think of something positive to feel good, put a smile on your face, and say I am magnificent. Then pat yourself on the back and celebrate. Do that 10 times in a row three times a day for 10 days. Notice what you notice.
It’s simple tools like this that will help you shift from the negative to the positive and help you stay within your values and default to your best self.
You can help how you feel. It simply takes practice or what is often called rehearsal. This Literally rewires your brain.
This tool will help you create safety when you need it. It’s small tools practiced and implemented that help you to take back your power and take charge of how you are feeling.
Be sure to celebrate every win you have as they all are important.
